We have had a few apprentices join us recently and we though we would get to know them better by having a Q and A session with some of them. first up meet Harvey, one of our talented 2nd-year Architectural Joinery Apprentices. From mastering machinery to working on standout projects. Harvey shares what drew him to the trade, his biggest highlights and even a memorable moment involving… a rogue ketchup bottle with the lid not on properly.
Q. When did you start your role here at Antone?
A. 12th June 2021
Q. What apprenticeship programme are you currently part of and where are you on the course?
A. 2nd year Architectural Joinery.
Q. What inspired you to choose this trade? Did you always know you wanted to work in this field, or did something spark your interest later on?
A. I enjoyed it at school and decided to carry on in a work environment.
Q. What’s been the most rewarding part of your apprenticeship so far?
A. Meeting all the different people/character at Antone!
Q. What’s a skill you’ve learned here that you’re really proud of?
A. Being able to use all the different machinery.
Q. Is there a particular project or task that’s stood out as a highlight for you?
A. The task I am enjoying now is a watches project, working on a backwall and counter using lots of different materials.
Q. What advice would you give to someone thinking about starting an apprenticeship?
A. Make sure it is really what you want to do and interested in before taking it on, it’s the only way you will really enjoy it with job satisfaction
Q. If you could swap jobs with anyone at Antone for a day, who would it be and why?
A. I would like to try my hand at spraying like Graham because it is something totally different.
Q. What’s been your funniest or most memorable moment at work so far?
A. Once when on site fit, co-worker and I went for something to eat afterwards. The tomato sauce bottle lid was not on properly and unfortunately as my colleague shook it (vigorously without realising) it went all over the young girl opposite him. Her dad was not impressed, I really tried not to laugh as he apologised profusely but there was no denying the chaos
Q. If you could have one superpower to help with your job, what would it be?
A. To be the Oracle at Antone.
Q. Where do you see yourself in the next few years?
A. A qualified joiner at Antone. 😊
